As some will have seen from my Facebook post, I have come across 3 Gentry projects. 2 have been on the road about 20yrs ago, and 1 has a Gentry Register badge mounted.
#1 registered as 1962 Herald 1200 in white.
#2 registered as 1969 Triumph 1290, has spitfire engine. in red
#3 registered as 1968 Triumph Vitesse 2000 in red (unfinished kit) loads of new parts including re-built engine.
This last is my keeper, and I guess it will end up with a "Q" plate as it has a new (20yrs ago) galvanised chassis. New (Ditto as before) chrome wires with new(???) Pirelli cinturatos x5.
This 1 has loads of potential, coupled with a load of work. Can't wait !!.
I have been a restorer of classic Brit motorcycles for more than 50 years, but age is catching up and 2 wheel machines don't stand up by themselves. My suggested putting a sidecar on one, WHATS THE POINT! a bike is getting the freedom factor, which a sidecar will not give, and if I am going to be stuck behind a Tractor or caravan, I'd sooner do it in style.

Peter,
If I'm reading your post correctly, the unfinished kit (#3) may be an issue.
If it has no V5C, or an incorrect one (wrong vehicle type) and doesn't have the original chassis it will require an IVA test before it can be registered, even with a 'Q' plate.
If the kit is 20+ years old, it almost certainly will NOT pass an IVA without really extensive modifications. (Different windscreen, revised seatbelt mountings, approved switches, approved spinners for the wire wheels and loads of other modifications).
You would be better off with a project that has a V5C as a Herald or Vitesse, provided it has the original chassis and enough original parts (engine, gearbox, suspension etc.),  to score enough on the points based system used to re-register it as a 'body change'. (See Vehicle registration - Radically altered vehicles )
If it doesn't have the original chassis, there's almost no chance of getting it registered via this route.

Bob

Thanks for the reply Bob. It has a V5c as a Triumph Vitesse, that shows some of the changes as to body etc. Chassis has been stamped with the correct commission number at some time, and a homemade Vin plate is attached with all relevant details on. I am not 100% regarding the chassis. As I understand it Triumph chassis are "waisted" with out riggers for body support. This one follows that design to a degree, but I need to get a better look.
Out of the 3, the next choice would be the spitfire engine one as this was on the road as late as 90s.
The last would the Herald based one, but this one would be the best from a registration point of view, as it has already been noted on the V5c that it is "Kit built". from a 13/60 Herald.
